International Migration, Remittances and Labour Supply: The Case of the Republic of Haiti (Research Paper 2009/28)
Summary: Evans Jadotte's UNU-WIDER paper modelling the household migration decision and the effect of remittances on labor supply in Haiti.
Key Findings
- States Haiti as the largest exporter of skilled workers in the world relative to population.
- Models the migration decision with a zero-altered negative binomial rather than assuming it.
- Precedes the 2015 World Bank paper on remittances and labor supply that the corpus also holds.
Full Description
Evans Jadotte's UNU-WIDER paper modelling the household migration decision and the effect of remittances on labor supply in Haiti. The corpus holds a 2015 World Bank paper on the same question; this is the earlier treatment, and its framing is sharper: Haiti is a leading remittance recipient relative to GDP and, for its population, the largest exporter of skilled workers in the world.
