Urgent civil society call for a rights-based international response to the crisis in Haiti
- Nine Haitian and international organisations signed the call on 12 June 2023.
- They ask for an urgent international response grounded in human rights.
- The response is to be designed explicitly to avoid the harm of past abusive interventions.
- An essential first step, they say, is to stop supporting the government in place.
Nine Haitian and international human rights and civil society organisations working in and on Haiti signed this three-page call. They sound the alarm on the country's human rights and humanitarian situation and ask regional and international actors to mobilise an urgent response grounded in human rights. The response they ask for is to be multiform and to seek explicitly to avoid the harm caused by abusive international interventions in the past, and an essential first step is to stop supporting the government in place. The signatories are the Bureau des Avocats Internationaux, the Commission Episcopale Nationale Justice et Paix, Ensemble Contre la Corruption, the Institute for Justice and Democracy in Haiti, Kay Fanm, Nègès Mawon, Nou Pap Dòmi, the Plateforme des Organisations Haïtiennes des Droits Humains and the RNDDH, whose director is given as the contact.
