Haiti faces a severe shortage of recent demographic data, hindering economic and social development planning. The last general population census was in 2003, and the fifth census (Ve RGPH) could not be conducted due to the country's ongoing multidimensional crisis, particularly insecurity. To address this gap, the Haitian Institute of Statistics and Informatics (IHSI) has produced disaggregated population estimates for mid-2024. These estimates leverage revised long-term projections from the Latin American and Caribbean Demographic Centre (CELADE), initially developed in collaboration with IHSI in 2008 and updated in 2022, along with IHSI's detailed 2015 estimates.
The report provides comprehensive data on population volume, distribution by age and sex, and urban/rural residence across Haiti's ten departments, 140 communes (excluding 9 newly created ones due to delimitation issues), and communal sections.
