Mapping: Key Figures. National Report: Haiti
Summary: Haiti country report of the cooperative mapping exercise run by the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) and its regional offices under the ICA-EU partnership for 2016 to 2020, produced by Cooperatives of the Americas and updated in October 2020. It compiles the few available statistics on Haitian cooperatives and the data returned by the one ICA member in Haiti.
Key Findings
- Haiti has no national statistics on the cooperative sector; the only recent figures cover savings and credit cooperatives (World Council of Credit Unions, 2014) and an IFAD estimate for agricultural cooperatives.
- IFAD puts the number of registered cooperatives at about 1,300, without a year.
- The World Council of Credit Unions counts 529,209 members of financial cooperatives and 529 jobs.
- One ICA member responded to the survey, the Union Coopérative de Crédit Agricole et Rural d'Haïti (UNICAGRIH), founded in 2014 and active in finance, reporting 5 employees for 2017.
- The first cooperative law dates from 14 September 1953 and created the Conseil National des Coopératives (CNC).
