Child Domestic Labour in Haiti: Characteristics, Contexts and Organisation of Children's Residence, Relocation and Work
- Counts 173,000 child domestic workers, 8.2 percent of children aged five to seventeen, the same figure as the 2002 ministry study.
- 59 percent of child domestics are girls and 41 percent boys, so the practice is not confined to girls as commonly assumed.
- Treats residence and relocation as the organizing question rather than counting alone.
- A revised draft prepared for UNICEF, ILO and Save the Children.
A report edited by Tone Sommerfelt for UNICEF, the ILO and Save the Children on child domestic labor in Haiti, examining not only how many children are involved but how residence, relocation and work are organized around them. It shares its headline count with the 2002 ministry study, which is what allows the two to be read as one evidence base in two languages and two audiences.
