E/2005/86: Letter from the Permanent Representative of Haiti transmitting the Prime Minister's response to the report of the Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Haiti
- The Government welcomes the Group's report E/2005/66 and asks that its mandate be renewed.
- It agrees with the Group's assessment of Haiti's social, political and economic situation.
- It places the long-term programme under the Economic and Social Council.
- It warns that disarmament, demobilization and reintegration will be demanding to follow up.
The letter, three pages, gives the Haitian Government's reading of the Group's first report. The Prime Minister says the Group is correct in its evaluation of the social, political and economic situation and that opportunities exist despite the difficulties. He ties Haiti's resource constraints to the Millennium Development Goals, notes that the goals depend on international partnership, and says Haiti's approach is to build a credible plan and ask partners to help carry it out, which is why the long-term programme was placed under the Economic and Social Council. He supports the Group's recommendations on the Council's role and warns that following up disarmament, demobilization and reintegration will be demanding, because the insecurity in Haiti has many sources.
