CEP/DC/052-2526: A CEP delegation in Canada meets the foreign minister and Elections Canada on diaspora voting

The delegation was made up of Secretary-General Peterson Pierre-Louis, Treasurer Nemrod Sanon and Councillor Schnaïda Adély. The mission is part of the consultations the CEP has opened with countries hosting a large Haitian community, to examine what a pilot diaspora vote would require.
The meeting with the Canadian minister of foreign affairs covered continued electoral cooperation between Haiti and Canada, and the institutional, technical and logistical arrangements needed to organize voting by Haitians living in Canada, along with mechanisms that could ease their participation.
A second meeting was held with Elections Canada. The delegation presented the main directions of the CEP's electoral preparations and gathered information on Canadian practice, in particular on accessibility, voter identification and the arrangements used to protect the integrity and transparency of a ballot.
