A CEP press note reporting that the Electoral Chair, co-chaired by the Council together with the State University of Haiti, closed its first international conference on Saturday 30 May 2026, after three days from 28 to 30 May bringing national and international partners together on the central theme of delivering the 2026 elections in Haiti and the expectations and opportunities attached to them. The conference allowed CEP members and staff, State University officials, national and international partners and electoral experts to identify and debate the conditions for successful elections.
Among the themes addressed were electoral security, the prevention of post-electoral crises through effective management of electoral disputes, voter participation and mobilization, and the mechanisms for guaranteeing the legitimacy of those elected at the polls. Closing the proceedings, CEP president Jacques Desrosiers reaffirmed the institution's determination to work towards transparent and inclusive elections serving the strengthening of democracy and the rule of law in Haiti, and Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé also spoke. The co-chairmanship with the State University is the detail worth keeping: it places a university inside the electoral-reform conversation rather than outside it.
