Two successful days in the recruitment of BRD and BRC members

A CEP press note reporting on the first two days of candidate filing for the departmental and communal referendum bureaux, which opened on 13 January 2025. The process is supervised in the departments by the electoral councillors, who were at the same time finalising their assessment of electoral infrastructure and deconcentrated structures across the eleven electoral jurisdictions. On the first day 333 applications were registered nationwide, 59 for the departmental bureaux and 274 for the communal bureaux; of the departmental applicants 15 were women and 44 men, and the Council states that female candidacies are strongly encouraged. Around 450 applications were registered on 14 January. The note is one of the few CEP documents giving hard participation numbers for a recruitment round, and the gender split it reports is the kind of figure the Council's own quota provisions are meant to move.
