CEP/DC/056-2526: Candidate registration extended to 14 October 2026, with the eight activities inside it dated

This note revises the published electoral calendar 2026-2027 at its step 6. Candidate registration was set for 20 August to 2 October 2026 in the calendar the CEP published on 27 July 2026 by note CEP/DC/028-2526. It now ends on 14 October 2026. The Council gives its reason as requests made by parties and political groupings through meetings and correspondence.

The note states that the extension affects each of the activities that make up the operation, and dates all eight: online registration of candidates from 20 August to 20 September 2026; filing of the required documents from 13 to 22 September; review of applications from 13 to 28 September; publication of the preliminary list of registered candidates on 29 September; challenges to a candidacy at the communal electoral dispute bureau from 30 September to 7 October; challenges at the departmental bureau from 30 September to 9 October; handling of appeals at the national bureau from 7 to 13 October; and publication of the definitive list of approved candidates on 14 October 2026.

The Council asks the parties and groupings concerned to use the additional time to complete the formalities through the dedicated platform. The note restates none of the surrounding steps, so accreditation of party poll agents still starts on 3 October 2026, the day after candidate registration was originally to close, and the first-round campaign still starts on 5 October 2026, nine days before the definitive candidate list is due.
