CEP Press Release No. 2: first round of legislative and presidential elections set for 30 August 2026

CEP Press Release No. 2, issued at Pétion-ville on 23 December 2025 under the electoral decree of 1 December 2025, publishing the calendar of electoral operations. Under it the first round of the legislative and presidential elections is set for 30 August 2026, and the second round, together with the elections for the territorial collectivities, for 6 December 2026. The Council states plainly that meeting these deadlines depends on certain preconditions being met, in particular the establishment of an acceptable security climate and the financial resources needed to continue electoral operations, and it reaffirms its commitment to an inclusive and impartial process conducted independently and transparently. The release circulates with the preconditions document attached, which quantifies the security constraint. This is the primary source for the calendar the CEP later superseded, in July 2026, with a first round of 13 December 2026.
