Description

(Haiti): Agriculture is central to the Haitian economy, generating nearly 25 percent of GDP and employing more than 60 percent of the population. Agriculture is especially important in Haiti's predominantly rural northern corridor. The Feed the Future North (FTFN) project supports the objective of increasing the incomes of at least 28,000 rural households through: 1) increased agricultural productivity; 2) stabilized hillsides above selected plains; and 3) strengthened agricultural markets. Rice, plantain/banana and cacao are the value chains supported by FTFN. In FY 2018, FTFN will increase the productivity of these value chains by providing access to improved technologies, management practices, and irrigation water. The project will also provide new marketing opportunities to the Feed the Future farmers of Northern Haiti.

Positive results achieved recently through the FTFN project will be consolidated and scaled up. Activities will be implemented with a focus on sustainability and private sector engagement. FTFN interventions will also contribute to community and household resilience by improving access to irrigation water through pumps and irrigation canals. Additionally, hillside stabilization interventions will reduce the environmental impacts of flooding..
