Description
(Haiti): .The USAID Reforestation Project aims to address environmental degradation and loss of tree cover in the north and northeast regions of Haiti by supporting community resilience and providing environmental services. The activity pursues four primary objectives: 1) Reduce the threat of deforestation, including threats to mangrove forests; 2) Improve community resilience to economic and natural shocks and stresses; 3) Increase tree cover in targeted watersheds; and 4) Improve environmental governance and coordination. With FY 2021 funds, the activity will consolidate the achievements of previous years and develop exit strategies to ensure the sustainability of those interventions. The activity will continue with landscape restoration interventions through the production and planting of more than one million fruit and forest trees, including
suite
mangroves. The activity will also develop value chain development strategies to link smallholder farmers who work on productive agroforestry systems to markets. In addition, technical assistance will be provided with the aim to convert the energy usage of 15,000 food street vendors to Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). This will reduce the demand for charcoal and wood and therefore mitigate the threat of deforestation. ..This activity is designed to expand community-level success to a larger scale of impact by empowering local stakeholders to develop plans for landscape and watershed restoration. By employing an integrated and holistic approach, the USAID Reforestation Project is the best intervention to help the communities meet their livelihood and energy needs while simultaneously supporting existing and developing forested areas. .All EG.11.3 $445,052 meets the Sustainable Landscapes and Haiti Reforestation directive..All EG.13.2 $3,375,000 contributes to the Adaptations and Haiti Reforestation directive......
