Description
(Haiti): With FY 2021 funds, USAID will support the new activity Strong Beginnings: Leveraging the Home, School and Church to Develop the Whole Child in Haiti to improve reading and writing outcomes in Creole and French in approximately 160 schools in the Grand'Anse and South departments. The activity aligns with USAID's Education Policy and supports the Mission's resilience focus objectives..Activities will undertake teacher training and coaching efforts, including training in the use of classroom libraries to enhance students' reading comprehension, remediation/differentiation of instruction, and use of a bilingual, scripted, phonics-based early grade literacy curriculum embedded in a social-emotional learning approach. Pre-primary education will also be included to focus on the essential pre-literacy skills and to create an enabling learning environment

The implementation of a learning laboratory approach facilitates a rapid feedback model that builds systematic achievement of learning objectives into the early stages of pre-primary education..Expected results include improved writing and reading skills in Creole and French for first and second grade students; improved social and emotional learning (SEL) skills for teachers and students; improved school readiness measures; implementation of a robust monitoring and evaluation plan; increased access to quality teacher training and coaching; knowledge sharing events among stakeholders in Haiti; the establishment of networks to develop partnerships in education across five departments in Haiti...
