The delayed effects on local prices of the war that broke out in the Middle East on 28 February have not yet been fully felt. Food and non-alcoholic beverages decelerated (rice 26.2% in March vs 26.9% in February; meat 30.8% vs 31.3%; cooking oil 22.4% vs 23.0%; banana 23.8% vs 29.8%), as did clothing and footwear (garment making 23.9% vs 25.0%), housing and utilities (rent 29.6% vs 32.8%; electricity 0% vs 50%), furnishings, and restaurants (meals eaten out 24.3% vs 25.5%). Locally produced and imported goods rose 21.4% and 19.2% year-on-year respectively. Regionally, the Metropolitan Area, the Rest of the West and the Transversal region posted the largest increases at 21.3%, 21.2% and 20.9%, while other regions stayed below 20.0%.
