Haiti - Seasonal Monitor March 2, 2026 Above-average vegetation health across most areas in Haiti Key Messages Figure 1 Seasonal rainfall distribution has been erratic across Haiti. Rainfall conditions have been near average over the last month. Average start of sowing activities in printemps season Positive NDVI anomalies have persisted for a second consecutive month, indicating sustained favorable vegetation conditions (Figure 1). Residual soil moisture from late December, near-average temperatures, and generally timely, though erratic rainfall have supported these positive vegetation conditions. Parts of Artibonite, Ouest, Sud-Est, and the Gonaïves area are reporting the best vegetation health conditions. However, localized pockets of vegetation stress remain primarily due to intermittent rainfall. Current soil moisture conditions are favorable for sowing activities and preparations for the Printemps rainy season beginning in March. Short-term forecasts suggest generally average rainfall, but with some positive anomalies of 10–25 millimeters over central parts of Haiti (Figure 2). These conditions are expected to support adequate water levels in Lac de Péligre and Étang Saumâtre lakes. Average temperature is forecast to persist through March 2026, which should limit evapotranspiration and rapid soil moisture depletion.
