This draft resolution, sponsored by Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago under agenda item 69 (c) of the seventy-first session of the General Assembly, addresses the cholera epidemic that has affected more than 800,000 people and caused over 9,000 deaths in Haiti since 2010. It recognizes that the United Nations bears a moral responsibility to the victims of the epidemic and their families and to supporting Haiti in overcoming cholera and building sound water, sanitation and health systems. The text reaffirms support for the new United Nations approach to cholera in Haiti, including the United Nations Haiti Cholera Response Multi-Partner Trust Fund, welcomes contributions already made and invites further voluntary support from Member States, donors and the private sector. It welcomes the Secretary-General's intention to invite Member States to voluntarily redirect their share of the unencumbered MINUSTAH balance for the 2015/16 period to the Trust Fund, requests rigorous completion of the liquidation of MINUSTAH assets with their potential use for the cholera response in mind, and asks for a comprehensive implementation report at the seventy-second session.
