Summary — This report presents the findings of a post-harvest survey conducted among mango producer associations within the Feed the Future Haiti Chanje Lavi Plantè project for the fiscal year 2016-2017. The survey assessed the value of mango exports following assistance from the U.S. government, revealing a decrease in both volume and value compared to the previous fiscal year.
Key Findings
- Mango exports decreased significantly in fiscal year 2016-2017 compared to 2015-2016.
- The value of mango exports was estimated at $402,350.89 USD in 2016-2017, a sharp decline from $2,189,031.21 USD in 2015-2016.
- The volume of mango exports also decreased, from 904,316.50 kg in 2015-2016 to 240,135.21 kg in 2016-2017.
- A significant portion of the exported mangoes in 2016-2017 came from associations that either did not export or were no longer beneficiaries in that year.
- The decline in exports may be attributed to association members selling independently and an overall drop in national mango export values.
Full Description
The Feed the Future Haiti Chanje Lavi Plantè project aims to improve agricultural productivity through modern techniques, stabilize watersheds, and promote more efficient agricultural product processing and marketing systems. This report, commissioned by Chemonics International, presents the results of a post-harvest survey conducted by Diagnostic & Development Group S.A. among mango producer associations for the fiscal year 2016-2017. The survey, which visited 62 associations, aimed to measure the value of mango exports following assistance from the U.S. government. The findings indicate a significant decrease in both the volume and value of mango exports compared to the previous year, with several factors contributing to this decline, including some association members selling independently and an overall drop in national mango export values.
