This report presents the provisional results of the farm-holding survey of Haiti's General Agricultural Census (RGA, reference campaign 2008-2009) for the Sud-Est department, published by the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR) with support from the FAO and the European Union. It is the first in a department-by-department series drawn from an exhaustive national enumeration of 1,053,107 agricultural holdings. In the Sud-Est, 86,409 holdings were counted, covering a used agricultural area (SAU) of 53,281.7 carreaux, an average of 0.62 carreaux per holding; 99% of holdings are managed directly by their operators. Holdings are very small: 85% work less than 1 carreau. The report covers agricultural holdings and operators, land tenure and modes of exploitation, irrigation, land use, livestock, labour, equipment and materials, credit, extension advisory services, and constraints on holding development, with a first methodological part on objectives, concepts, questionnaires and fieldwork, followed by detailed statistical annexes down to the communal level.
