The departmental livestock herd reached 260,795 head, with goats (local and improved) accounting for 38.8%, followed by cattle (35.2%) and pigs (25.5%). Vegetables were the leading land use, covering 38,391 carreaux or 30.6% of total cultivated area.

This report presents the provisional results of Haiti's General Agricultural Census (RGA), based on the 2008/2009 farm survey, for the Nord department, published by MARNDR in April 2012. It follows the census methodology and covers the main themes surveyed at the departmental level: agricultural holdings and holders, land structures and tenure arrangements, irrigation, land use and crops, livestock, labour, equipment, credit, extension, and constraints to development. Of the 1,053,107 agricultural holdings enumerated nationally, 103,624 were recorded in the Nord department, 9.8% of the country's total. These holdings span a Utilised Agricultural Area (SAU) of 83,928.9 carreaux, an average of 0.81 carreau per holding, and 98.5% are managed directly by their holders. The departmental livestock herd totals 260,795 head, dominated by goats, followed by cattle and pigs. Vegetables were the leading land use in the department. The census was conducted by MARNDR with technical support from the FAO and financing from the European Union.
