Full Description
This report is MARNDR's national synthesis of the results of Haiti's General Agricultural Census (RGA), conducted through the 2008/2009 farm survey (Enquête Exploitation) and published in October 2012 as the final volume in the census series, following the department-by-department provisional releases. It presents the census methodology and consolidated national findings across the main themes surveyed: agricultural holdings and holders, land structures and tenure arrangements, irrigation, land use and crops, livestock, labour, equipment, credit, extension services, and constraints to development. The census was an exhaustive count covering all of Haiti's agricultural holdings across the ten departments. It records 1,018,951 agricultural holdings covering a Utilised Agricultural Area (SAU) of 736,241.5 carreaux, an average of 0.72 carreau per holding, and a national livestock herd of 4,661,448 head. The operation was led by MARNDR with technical support from the FAO and principal financing from the European Union, in collaboration with IHSI and CNIGS. Extensive statistical annexes and concepts and definitions accompany the analysis.
