This report presents the provisional results of the farm-holding survey of Haiti's General Agricultural Census (RGA, reference campaign 2008-2009) for the Centre department, published by the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR) with support from the FAO and the European Union. It is the second in a department-by-department series drawn from an exhaustive national enumeration of 1,053,107 agricultural holdings. In the Centre, 124,471 holdings were counted, covering a used agricultural area (SAU) of 120,611.6 carreaux, an average of 0.97 carreaux per holding; 99.2% of holdings are managed directly by their operators. Holdings are small: 63.9% work less than 1 carreau. The report covers agricultural holdings and operators, land tenure and modes of exploitation, irrigation, land use, livestock, labour, equipment and materials, credit, extension advisory services, and constraints on holding development, with a first methodological part describing objectives, concepts, questionnaires and fieldwork, followed by detailed statistical annexes down to the communal level.
