Full Description
The Avian Influenza Control and Human Pandemic Preparedness and Response Project in Haiti was implemented with the goal of minimizing the threat posed to humans by highly-pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) infection and other zoonoses, and to prepare for, control, and respond to influenza pandemics and other infectious disease emergencies. The project focused on strengthening animal and human health systems, improving disease surveillance, and enhancing communication and coordination between relevant sectors. While the project achieved some success in building capacity and improving preparedness, it faced challenges related to fiduciary management, inter-agency coordination, and external shocks such as the 2010 earthquake and the cholera outbreak. The project closed early, with some activities remaining incomplete.
