Industry remains roughly\nseven times as productive per worker as agriculture, which is where most\nHaitian workers are.\n\n**Why this indicator exists when `gdp` already has sectors.** The `gdp`\nindicator carries sectoral value added on a 27-code component breakdown from\nIHSI, which is finer than the three-way split here and is the national\nsource. Anyone wanting sectoral GDP should use `gdp`, not this indicator. What\nsurvives here is the productivity ratio, because it needs an **employment\ndenominator that IHSI's national accounts do not carry**. That denominator is\nthe reason this series exists and also its main weakness.\n\n**SOURCE AND AUTHORITY NOTE.** The numerator is national-accounts value\nadded, IHSI-derived and harmonised by the World Bank. The denominator is\nILOSTAT modelled employment. Haiti has had no recent labour force survey, so\nsectoral employment is an ILO estimate rather than a count, and the ratio\ninherits that uncertainty. This indicator is ranked below national sources for\nany variable they publish directly. Label the figures \"WDI/ILO estimate\" in\nprose and do not present them as IHSI productivity statistics.\n\n**The sector mapping is approximate.** WDI's \"Industry (including\nconstruction)\" is mapped onto the SECONDARY code and \"Services\" onto\nTERTIARY. These are close to, but not identical with, the secondary and\ntertiary aggregates in IHSI's own accounts, which differ in the treatment of\nsome activities. Do not reconcile a figure from this indicator against a\nsectoral GDP figure from `gdp` and expect the implied employment to match.\n\n**Reading a decline in a ratio.** Value added per worker falls either when\noutput falls or when employment in the sector rises. Through 2019 to 2025\nHaitian output contracted every year while the working-age population kept\ngrowing, so both terms push the same way. The series is evidence of falling\noutput per worker; it is not by itself evidence about technology, effort or\nskills.\n",

Pre-2019\nhistory is spliced across IHSI's base-year change using WB's own link\nfactors, which can produce values that differ slightly from IHSI's\ndirect publication on the 2017-2018 base.\n\n**Development indicators** (GNI per capita `NY.GNP.PCAP.CD`,\nremittances `BX.TRF.PWKR.DT.GD.ZS`, FDI `BX.KLT.DINV.WD.GD.ZS`,\npoverty `SI.POV.DDAY` / `SI.POV.LMIC`): annual, calendar-year. GNI per\ncapita uses the World Bank Atlas method (a three-year exchange-rate\naverage that smooths currency swings). Remittances and FDI are reported\nas a share of GDP. Poverty headcounts are survey-based and infrequent:\nHaiti's most recent comparable figures are from 2012, so that series has\nlong gaps and should be read as a structural rather than current reading.\n\n**Data provenance**: country-submitted; WDI applies methodology\nconsistency adjustments but does not independently re-estimate.\nRevisions to prior years follow country revisions on roughly a\n6-12 month lag.\n\n\nAll three series are pulled from the World Bank WDI API for Haiti (HTI) and\nland on the `component` dimension of the shared `gdp_component` codelist:\n\n  component=AGRICULTURE  NV.AGR.EMPL.KD  Agriculture, forestry and fishing, value added per worker\n  component=SECONDARY    NV.IND.EMPL.KD  Industry (including construction), value added per worker\n  component=TERTIARY     NV.SRV.EMPL.KD  Services, value added per worker\n\n**Why only the productivity ratio comes from WDI's NV block.** WDI publishes\na full set of sectoral value-added series (levels, shares of GDP, growth\nrates). All of them duplicate the `gdp` indicator, which already carries a\n`component` dimension on a 27-code codelist (AGRICULTURE, MANUFACTURING,\nELECTRICITY_GAS, ICT, FINANCE and others) sourced from IHSI, and which is\nboth finer and upstream of the WDI aggregation. Adding them would double-count\nthe same underlying statistics. Value added per worker is the exception: it\nrequires sectoral employment, which IHSI's national accounts do not provide,\nso it cannot be derived from anything already in the registry.\n\n**Construction of the ratio.** The numerator is sectoral value added in\nconstant 2015 US dollars, which for Haiti traces back to IHSI's national\naccounts as harmonised by the World Bank. The denominator is employment in\nthe same sector from ILOSTAT. Haiti's most recent national labour force\nsurvey is long out of date, so ILO's sectoral employment for Haiti is a\nmodelled estimate built from older survey benchmarks, population structure\nand regional patterns. Two consequences: the level of the ratio should be\nread as indicative rather than precise, and revisions to ILO's model move the\nwhole series without any change in the national accounts.\n\n**Authority rank.** This indicator is ranked 2 in `wb_wdi`'s\n`authority_priority`, below rank-1 international series, because its\nnumerator is IHSI-derived and the national accounts are the authority for\nthat half. It must never become the default presentation of Haitian sectoral\noutput.\n\n**Sector concordance.** WDI's three-way split is coarser than IHSI's and the\nmapping onto this platform's codes is approximate:\n\n  - `AGRICULTURE` maps directly onto agriculture, forestry and fishing.\n  - `SECONDARY` carries WDI's \"Industry (including construction)\", which is\n    close to but not identical with IHSI's secondary sector.\n  - `TERTIARY` carries WDI's \"Services\", likewise close to but not identical\n    with IHSI's tertiary aggregate.\n\nBecause of this, dividing a `gdp` component value by a figure from this\nindicator will not recover ILO's employment number, and the two indicators\nshould not be mixed inside one calculation.\n\n**Interpreting the direction.** A fall in value added per worker can come\nfrom falling output, from rising sector employment, or from both. Pre-2019\nhistory is spliced across IHSI's base-year change using WB's own link\nfactors, which can produce values that differ slightly from IHSI's\ndirect publication on the 2017-2018 base.\n\n**Development indicators** (GNI per capita `NY.GNP.PCAP.CD`,\nremittances `BX.TRF.PWKR.DT.GD.ZS`, FDI `BX.KLT.DINV.WD.GD.ZS`,\npoverty `SI.POV.DDAY` / `SI.POV.LMIC`): annual, calendar-year. GNI per\ncapita uses the World Bank Atlas method (a three-year exchange-rate\naverage that smooths currency swings). Remittances and FDI are reported\nas a share of GDP. Poverty headcounts are survey-based and infrequent:\nHaiti's most recent comparable figures are from 2012, so that series has\nlong gaps and should be read as a structural rather than current reading.\n\n**Data provenance**: country-submitted; WDI applies methodology\nconsistency adjustments but does not independently re-estimate.\nRevisions to prior years follow country revisions on roughly a\n6-12 month lag.\n\n\nAll three series are pulled from the World Bank WDI API for Haiti (HTI) and\nland on the `component` dimension of the shared `gdp_component` codelist:\n\n  component=AGRICULTURE  NV.AGR.EMPL.KD  Agriculture, forestry and fishing, value added per worker\n  component=SECONDARY    NV.IND.EMPL.KD  Industry (including construction), value added per worker\n  component=TERTIARY     NV.SRV.EMPL.KD  Services, value added per worker\n\n**Why only the productivity ratio comes from WDI's NV block.** WDI publishes\na full set of sectoral value-added series (levels, shares of GDP, growth\nrates). All of them duplicate the `gdp` indicator, which already carries a\n`component` dimension on a 27-code codelist (AGRICULTURE, MANUFACTURING,\nELECTRICITY_GAS, ICT, FINANCE and others) sourced from IHSI, and which is\nboth finer and upstream of the WDI aggregation. Adding them would double-count\nthe same underlying statistics. Value added per worker is the exception: it\nrequires sectoral employment, which IHSI's national accounts do not provide,\nso it cannot be derived from anything already in the registry.\n\n**Construction of the ratio.** The numerator is sectoral value added in\nconstant 2015 US dollars, which for Haiti traces back to IHSI's national\naccounts as harmonised by the World Bank. The denominator is employment in\nthe same sector from ILOSTAT. Haiti's most recent national labour force\nsurvey is long out of date, so ILO's sectoral employment for Haiti is a\nmodelled estimate built from older survey benchmarks, population structure\nand regional patterns. Two consequences: the level of the ratio should be\nread as indicative rather than precise, and revisions to ILO's model move the\nwhole series without any change in the national accounts.\n\n**Authority rank.** This indicator is ranked 2 in `wb_wdi`'s\n`authority_priority`, below rank-1 international series, because its\nnumerator is IHSI-derived and the national accounts are the authority for\nthat half. It must never become the default presentation of Haitian sectoral\noutput.\n\n**Sector concordance.** WDI's three-way split is coarser than IHSI's and the\nmapping onto this platform's codes is approximate:\n\n  - `AGRICULTURE` maps directly onto agriculture, forestry and fishing.\n  - `SECONDARY` carries WDI's \"Industry (including construction)\", which is\n    close to but not identical with IHSI's secondary sector.\n  - `TERTIARY` carries WDI's \"Services\", likewise close to but not identical\n    with IHSI's tertiary aggregate.\n\nBecause of this, dividing a `gdp` component value by a figure from this\nindicator will not recover ILO's employment number, and the two indicators\nshould not be mixed inside one calculation.\n\n**Interpreting the direction.** A fall in value added per worker can come\nfrom falling output, from rising sector employment, or from both. Haitian GDP\ncontracted in every year from 2019 through 2025 while the working-age\npopulation continued to grow, so both terms move the ratio down over that\nwindow.
