Its landings statistics are\nnot extracted into this platform, so these come from FAO's capture and\naquaculture databases via the World Bank WDI. Label them \"FAO estimate\" in\nprose.\n\n**Most of this series is estimated, not counted.** Haiti's fleet is\nsmall-scale and lands at hundreds of undocumented beach sites, so there is no\nsystematic enumeration of catch. FAO fills the gap with estimates, which is\nvisible in the data itself: many years report round numbers, and long\nstretches repeat the same value. Treat the series as an order of magnitude and\na long-run direction. A single year's figure will not support a claim about\nthe state of the fishery, and the flat run since 2015 is as likely to reflect\nan unchanged estimate as an unchanged catch.\n\n**Never stack the total with its parts.** TOTAL equals CAPTURE plus\nAQUACULTURE exactly in every year. Charting all three as a stack, or adding\nthe total to a components chart, double-counts the entire catch.\n\n**What the series cannot tell you.** It carries no information about fishing\neffort, stock health, or the size distribution of what is landed, which are\nthe questions that matter for whether the 16,000-ton level is sustainable.\nNor does it capture the value of the catch or how much of it is consumed at\nhome rather than sold.\n",
